Over 80s Travel Insurance

At Premier Cover we believe that everyone should have the right to obtain travel insurance at a fair price and if you’re over 80 and are heading away, your age shouldn’t affect your ability to get covered.

We offer policies with no upper age limit for Single Trip Travel Insurance policies and Annual Multi-Trip policies up to age 85 and we provide a quick and easy way to arrange your travel insurance whether it’s online or over the phone.

Travel Insurance For Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

A pre-existing medical condition is any condition that you have had prior to taking out a travel insurance policy with us. If you are unsure about what a pre-existing medical condition is you can find out more information here.

It’s important that we know about all your conditions to enable us to provide effective support should you require medical assistance while you’re away and also to correctly calculate your premium.

Don’t worry though, we’re never looking to catch you out and our screening system is designed to ask the minimum amount of questions and is available online and over the phone so you can choose the best option for you.

If you do have any questions at any point, please feel free to give our friendly team a call on 0800 298 1112 and they’ll be happy to help you through the process.

Travel Advice for Over 80s

  • If you are on a long-haul flight then make sure that you get up from your seat regularly and take a walk around to lessen your risk of developing deep-vein thrombosis. It’s always best to consult your GP before travelling if you have any specific health concerns.
  • Make sure that you have taken enough medication to last the duration of your trip, plus a little extra just in case you hit any unexpected delays along the way. It’s also good practice to check and see if your medication is ok to take into the country that you are visiting, as in some countries there are restrictions on certain brands.
  • Also bear in mind that if you need to take any medication with you, you should check what is and isn’t allowed by the country you are travelling to. That’s because in some countries there are restrictions on certain medicines/brands and if you pack something that isn’t allowed you could face severe penalties. To check this, visit the FCO website as it will give the latest advice before travelling to a country.
  • Try to avoid drinking tap water where possible unless you are absolutely sure that it is safe to do so.

If you are travelling to Europe then make sure you take out your free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). The EHIC is available to all UK residents and entitles you to some free medical treatment in the European Economic Area. But please be aware that the EHIC should not be treated as a replacement for a travel insurance policy. This is because while the EHIC may cover your medical concerns, it doesn’t offer any cover for factors such as cancelled flights, stolen baggage or repatriation. Also as part of our policies you will have no excess to pay when the EHIC is used.
