Nut Allergies Travel Insurance

Living with a severe nut allergy (also known as anaphylaxis) can be challenging and while it may be a little more daunting, due to possible language barriers, to discuss your requirements with eating establishments in different parts of the world, it shouldn’t stop you from travelling abroad.

But have you found it hard to find a travel insurance provider who can offer cover at a reasonable price?

The good news is that Premier Cover is here to help.

I Have A Nut Allergy. Can I Still Get Travel Insurance?

At Premier Cover we understand that questions about whether you can get covered and what the policy will cost can be a concern. Also maybe the thought of answering a long list of questions about your condition is off putting.

However, with Premier Cover there's no need to worry as we've made obtaining travel insurance for those with a nut allergy as straightforward as possible.

What Is A Pre-Existing Medical Condition?

A pre-existing medical condition is any illness or underlying condition that you are aware of prior to taking out your travel insurance policy. Although emergency medical treatment is covered by our policies, we can’t cover conditions that you neglect to inform us about, and this could result in your claim being declined. As such it’s best to declare all conditions at the time of purchase and in many cases there may be no additional premium to pay. If you are unsure about anything, please give our friendly team a call on 0800 298 1112 and they will answer any questions you may have and guide you through the process too.

Key Benefits Of Our Nut Allergy Travel Insurance

  • We consider ALL medical conditions
  • Cover for medical expenses up to £10 million
  • 24 hour emergency medical helpline
  • Personal accident cover
  • Single Trip cover with no upper age limit
  • For a full list of features please view our Policy Details

Do I Need An EHIC If I Have A Nut Allergy?

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) entitles UK residents access to necessary, state provided medical treatment, during a temporary visit in the European Economic Area (EEA) countries and Switzerland - at a reduced cost or free of charge. The EHIC is valid for five years.

As a valued Premier Cover policyholder, you will have no excess to pay when the EHIC is used.

Please remember to take your EHIC with you when you travel and check that it is still valid, as you’ll be required to present it when seeking medical treatment. Each traveller will require a card. The EHIC will cover the costs of managing pre-existing medical conditions, maternity care or renal dialysis but it will not cover you if you are going abroad to receive medical treatment. And because it doesn’t cover aspects such as repatriation, it’s not a replacement for having a good travel insurance policy.

Travel Tips For Those With Nut Allergies

  • Make sure that you are wearing your medical alert necklace or bracelet, so that if you do have a reaction, people around you are aware of the cause.

  • If you are flying, make sure that you inform the airline ahead of your arrival, and you may want to double check by informing the stewards as you board the plane. They will then make sure that they don’t serve any products including nuts during the journey.

  • Before you travel to a country it’s worth researching the cuisine first. If nuts are used in a lot of popular dishes, then there’s a greater risk of your food being contaminated and you suffering an allergic reaction.

  • Do not leave adrenaline pens in the sunlight as the heat can cause the adrenaline to turn brown. You can obtain special bags to make sure that your pen is kept at the correct temperature.

  • We’re Here To Help
