Epilepsy Travel Insurance

If you’re planning to head away on holiday, whether it’s for a short break or an extended trip, having epilepsy shouldn’t stop you; it’s just important that you plan in advance and take steps to ensure you are well prepared.

Part of that preparation is taking out a suitable travel insurance policy before leaving for your trip, as if you are unfortunate enough to have to seek medical attention while you’re away with no cover in place, you could be faced with covering the total costs of any medical bills.

However, with Premier Cover there's no need to worry as we've made obtaining Travel Insurance for epilepsy as straightforward as possible.

Our quick and easy medical screening process is available online or if you prefer you can speak to one of our highly-trained and friendly agents for free. Either way you’ll be asked some questions regarding your condition and we will then use your answers to make a quick decision, meaning you'll be covered within minutes!

What Is A Pre-existing Medical Condition?

A pre-existing medical condition is any illness or underlying condition that you are aware of prior to taking out your travel insurance policy. Although emergency medical treatment is covered by our policies, we can’t cover conditions that you neglect to inform us about, and this could result in your claim being rejected. As such it’s best to declare all conditions at the time of purchase and in many cases there may be no additional premium to pay. If you are unsure about anything, please give our friendly team a call on 0800 298 1112 and they will answer any questions you may have and guide you through the process too.

  • Cover for medical expenses up to £10 million

Do I Need An EHIC If I Have Epilepsy?

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) entitles UK residents access to necessary, state provided medical treatment, during a temporary visit in the European Economic Area (EEA) countries and Switzerland - at a reduced cost or free of charge. The EHIC is valid for five years.

As a valued Premier Cover policyholder, you will have no excess to pay when the EHIC is used.

Please remember to take your EHIC with you when you travel and check that it is still valid, as you are required to present it for medical treatment. Each traveller will require a card. The EHIC will cover the costs of managing pre-existing medical conditions, maternity care or renal dialysis but it will not cover you if you are going abroad to receive medical treatment.

Travel Tips For Those With Epilepsy

  • It’s important that you take enough medication with you to last the duration of your trip. It’s always worth packing a little extra just in case you are hit with any unexpected delays during your trip.
  • Most vaccinations are fine for those with epilepsy, however there are some anti-malarial tablets that aren’t recommended for people who have the condition. Make sure that you consult with your GP before buying over the counter malaria tablets.
  • Do you have a piece of identifying jewellery or an epilepsy ID card? If you are unfortunate enough to have a seizure whilst travelling this will help people to know what is happening to you and respond appropriately. These can be obtained by contacting Epilepsy Action.
